Hayley & Jayla - Wollongong "Mummy & Me" Mother's Day Session

Hayley & Jayla  - Mother/Daughter Family Session

Most normal people opt for hitting the beach to enjoy some fun in the sun, or stay inside with the air conditioning blasting when it's a 40°C day, but on this day last month I had a mini-session marathon, and this session was one of these!

This location is undoubtedly one of my favourites in the Illawarra. These fig trees just have so much character, and I feel for family sessions just bring something else to the table. I just love this spot!

Hayley contacted me for a mother-daughter family session shortly after I captured her sister's engagement, just weeks before. I love when clients recommend me to their friends and family! Next time I see Hayley, she'll be the maid of honour at her sister's wedding, later this year.

Hayley & Jayla have such a special connection and I loved being able to witness this at our session. Family sessions I feel should be more about the connections, rather than stale rigid posing. In this session, we had eskimo kisses, walks with stories, cuddles, tickles, hide and seek and everything else we could think of - embracing the connection, and just having a lot of fun in doing so. A lot of my clients say at the start of our session "I'm not very photogenic" and "we need a lot of direction",  and leave the session saying how it wasn't as awkward as they thought it would be, in fact it wasn't awkward at all, and that they had fun!

With Mother's Day very quickly approaching, have you considered gifting Mum with a family session? Trust me, she'll love it!

Carly, James & Georgia - Shellharbour Family Session

Carly, James & Georgia // Family Session

How hot was Sunday!?

Whilst most were enjoying the waves at the beach or staying inside with the a/c blasting, I had a mini-session marathon with 4 sessions! I know, only crazy people work in 40°C weather right?!

This session was my second last for the day. This family had just traveled back from Canberra after visiting family for their nephews 3rd birthday, and then endured the tropical humid heat for our mini session - and we had so much fun! Georgia is only 18 months old and just so full of life. We had laughter, tears - and this girl has SO many different facial expressions from cute as pie to sass queen and everything in between.

Such an adorable little family with a lot of love and it was a pleasure to capture this family, even in the phenomenal heat on the day!

Tearne & Aydan - Shellharbour Wedding

Tearne & Aydan // Married

I feel like it was only a few months ago that we were throwing around Autumn leaves and having a blast at their engagement session.. oh wait it was!

Tearne and Aydan are such a gorgeous couple. We clicked instantly with our first skype meeting and our connections just grew from there. Tearne has such an infectious laugh and has a similar sense of humour to I and Aydan also shares the same love for Iron Man that I do - instantly we became lifelong friends!

Tearne's Matron of Honour was her Mum, Stephanie - a testament to their very close relationship.
Aydan's Woman of Honour was his best friend Kirsty.
And their gorgeous "Best Dog" was their pup, Diesel.

Their ceremony was held on the upper dunes of Shellharbour Beach, at Shellharbour Beachside Tourist Park. We ventured down to Killalea State Park for their bridal portraits, and it took a bit of convinving with Tearne, but I promised it was worth it. A bride who can trek over the rock platform onto the beach, up for a bit of adventure is my kind of bride! Thankfully her wedding shoes were some trusty Havainana's which perfectly suited our location. The light was absolutely stunning - Tearne soon thanked me for the trek!

Tearne & Aydan's reception was held at the Shellharbour Club. The staff went absolutely above and beyond for them and their special day, was truly impressed.
The club has recently opened up "The Precint" - an indoor, permanent street eats sector, along with a big section for the kids to play. We had a lotttt of fun in the neon lights of the Precinct, and finishing up in the billiards room upstairs.

Tahlia & Matt - Killalea Engagement

Tahlia & Matt // Engagement

I simply can not get enough of the winter sunsets the Illawarra has been so blessed to be receiving lately! Tahlia and Matt are getting married in only a few months from now, so I insisted we hold our engagement session during winter to utilise these sunsets to our full advantage.

Engaged couples reading this - I cannot recommend a session, whether an engagement session or otherwise, with your photographer more prior to your wedding! You know their work, and likely know your photographer as a person, but being in front of the camera for a full session prior to your wedding day just adds the additional connection and familiarity - and it shows in the photos!

Now I seek real and raw connections and expressions in my sessions. Tahlia and Matt just aced this! To spark some natural laughs, I prompted Matt to say something that would make Tahlia laugh and he followed with.. "Hey remember that time my cooking gave us both food poisoning!" The reactions of hysterical laughter that followed I guarantee weren't the same on that particular occasion!

Stay tuned for their wedding in November!

Reagan & Josh - Killalea Engagement

Reagan & Josh // Engagement

From the get go I knew these two were simply two peas in a pod.
This session was all brought about by Josh's sister contacting me, ordering two vouchers for her recently engaged siblings. How crazy is that?! Josh's sister is recently married herself, and both her siblings are engaged. What a great time, full of love in their family!

They had their hearts set on Killalea to hold their session, and what a location it is! Sunsets for me create the warm ambiance that can add depth and emotion to sessions, and for loved-up couples, it just suits perfectly.

Being the middle of winter, the beach isn't the key location those jump to go to, so the crowds weren't around, and we were able to capture the essence of the love between Josh and Reagan without the onlookers. I've really been urging my couples who are contemplating an engagement session to hold them throughout winter - there's just something about that light! It's cooler, so those cuddly moments are free of sticky uncomfortable heat. The rain has been minimal, and there's veeerry few of those pesky flies to keep swatting away - this time of the year is perfect!

The sunset for our session was incredible! Such gorgeous light peered over the cliff as it began to set. Once the sun disappeared, we were convinced the temperature dropped by about 10 degrees instantly, and we finished up with the stunning pink hues over the horizon.

Natalie & Todd - Killalea Surprise Wedding

Natalie & Todd // Married

Guests got the beautiful surprise when they turned up to Natalie & Todd's Engagement Party - to find that in-fact they had been married in secret at Killalea that morning!

It was an intimate ceremony of immediate family only, in stunning weather at Killalea State Park. This ceremony was full of emotion, right from when Natalie got out of the car, to commence her journey down the aisle. Natalie looked absolutely stunning, and Todd had tears in his eyes when he first saw his bride.

Their reception was completely DIY, and was held at the Ribbonwood Centre in Dapto. There were screams, tears, and incredibly joy from guests as they learned Natalie & Todd were now married.

The Lardner Family - Killalea

The Lardner Family

Photo sessions make GREAT gift options. This session was exactly brought about by this idea. Kristen contacted me saying that she'd been discussing with her siblings about Christmas gift ideas for their parents, and decided that a canvas print and a photo session would be the perfect gift. Note - this session was taken only days before Christmas. They had their photos back in time for Christmas and were able to get everything organised - how good is that!

They had their hearts set on Killalea for their session - and it was the perfect backdrop. Killalea has so much to offer - monthly markets, a camp ground, a popular wedding venue, as well of the being home to The Farm & Mystics surf beaches.

Contemplating a family session as a gift idea, or would like to arrange a voucher as a gift for someone you know?
